I'm sure many conference attendees, artists, speakers and FACT staff are going to publish much more in depth articles on what they loved and learned from the sk-interfaces conference. My notes are rather brief, and I feel as the day comes toward a close that rather overwhelmed feeling. I was not previously particularly interested in bio art and am more interested in the interactions between art and technology than art and science but I feel like I learned a lot today and the conference ad exhibition has sparked a new interest for me.
My highlight however was the session by Professor Dennis Noble on The Music of Life. The Music of Life is also the title of Dennis's book and whilst some concepts of 'Biology Beyond the Genome' were at times in the talk, beyond me, I felt very enlightened by it. The notion that there are no programmes that tell our bodies what to actually do is terrifying for someone who understands the world of hardware, software & data. The idea that not all information is contained in DNA, and that some things that the body does are just not explainable fills me with a sense of humbleness and awe, I suppose.
And now I'm leaving the conference on that note to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

If genes are not selfish as Dennis Noble argues - what does this do to our social thinking as well as out technical thinking around the body?
