AL and AL open in Beijing

AL and AL's Eternal Youth may have closed at FACT but the new commission has opened as part of a media art show in Beijing called Synthetic Times. An official cultural project in the lead up to this summers Olympics, the new media exhibition is showcasing work by over 50 artists from 30 countries.

AL and AL join Anthony McCall in representing the UK.

FACT's Programme Delivery Manager Nick Lawrenson has been overseeing installation of the UK works in the show.

"Things are going well here in Beijing in the run up to the opening of Synthetic Times, the scale of the city is enormous and something I was unprepared for and haven't really encountered anywhere else. The exhibition itself is really ambitious and there is a lot of work going on but a lot of people doing it! Things are extremely busy at the gallery but they are looking after us really well.

It's been great running into a few familiar FACT faces, both David Rokeby and Stelarc are in the show, and it looks like there is some really interesting work going on, although most of it isn't working yet. We are in reasonably good shape with our 2 installations, Eternal Youth by Al and Al and Between You and I Horizontal by Anthony McCall but plenty of work lies ahead in the next few days, looks like those sightseeing visits are a little way off yet."
